A friend w**ks for amtrak and he was in the city and at about the same time you saw the pack-o-choppers he saw an army of water vehicles take off in a big rush for the same area. he said it was everything from jet skis to police boats and he said they were practically in formation when they took off... spooky shit...

The liberty cam was pointed a little lower yesterday, you could see the tourist ferry doing the cruise by. That jersey cam that looks across the river is better once the sun has gotten higher and further to the west.. and you can go back in time with the jersey cam. To Prov area lurkers, may I recommend the water fountain at what used to be Hospital Trust Plaza. It's been converted to one of those ground level jobs so you can go right up to the jets of water coming up out of the pavement. I went there during Water-Fire Saturday and no one was playing in it until I got out there and I was soon joined by 12-15 kids who began splashing, giggling, and causing general mayhem in the area. Chalk one up for the shitstarters!

I like impressionism, but I know what you mean. You would think it's the only type of art that's out there judging by the calendars hanging in the cubicles around here. Myself, I have a Scott Mutter calendar hung up over my desk (last years, HA!) I lean towards the surreal (I'm sure that's no surprise).. Oh, and I have 2ft.high-3ft.long wooden T-Rex skeleton that I made on the counter. THAT gets some reactions...

the meminka babies are awesome - they look like ants crawling all over the tower and you can see them from any point in the city. i look at them and compare the industriousness of ants to the insidiousness of human industry...i don't know. i'm sure it means different things to different people. the car is also cool - it's a trebon, an east german make and is housed in the garden of the german embassy in prague.

Cerny I'd actually heard of before and I did like the babies on the tower piece and the four-legged car. My guess is those two will have some staying power. RISD has definitely gotten to be more than an architectural school over the years and the downtown area is populated with about twenty or so large scale abstract sculptures. They change the pieces regularly too, so you never know what's gonna be around the corner here.

Well jerzy, can't say as I was impressed much with either site. Maybe it's because we have RISD here in Providence, we got angst ridden posers with a fair amount of artistic talent and a short supply of life insight, propping up sculptures like your czech buddy's all over town. Don't get me wrong, I think the stuff is alright. I just don't expect much of it to end up as the concern of art conservators of the future.
