From a dailykos thread, talking about kids doing the Eminem Mosh the Vote bit...
Hood black sweatshirts.
In my small town (pop. 14,000)... I happened to travel over to the grocery store (we all voted this AM in my household).
Any way... there was a group of about 3 young people standing in front of the supermarket.. all wearing black hooded sweatshirts. No signs for Kerry-Edwards... just standing there. I barely noticed them when I drove in.
I thought about it while shopping and remembered that there's this mosh video and this eminem character and this black hooded jacket thing (hey, I read kos!). And then on the way out I honked the horn of my vehicle and gave a thumbs up sign. Well, let me tell you folks... these high-school aged kids (probably not voters) gave me the sign right back, and they changed demeanor and gave high-fives.
I'm going to rest easy tonight.

which got this response
I'm afraid I grossed out a couple of young people today, dressed as I was, a middle-aged white woman, in my black hoodie with a homemade sign pinned to the front that said "Mosh the Vote" (hey, had to cover up the logo of the company that fired me -- but I kept the shirt). I could imagine them thinking: "Eww! Old lady! Eminem! Eww!"
Nevertheless!!

apparently some truth. As to ballot shiz, you should really be deciding that yourself. But I'm going no on both. The first one I agree with half of, but I don't want to give the Governor more powers so thumbs down from me. Number 2, though the number be beloved by lurkers, the last time they did this it wasted a couple million dollars and the changes got rejected by the voters once their proposed plan became obvious. So unless you DON'T expect the same performance from RI's crookedest, I'd hit reject there too. Here's the state issued shiz on all the referenda.

that Philly shiz is from drudge, who has seen fit to not post even one of the repugs criminal attempts to steal the election (this is about a heavily democratic ward). Probably just old lever machines that weren't cleared after the last election. It happens all the time and they check them all before the polls open. The ace pitcher said Bush was a commander in chief who will ensure troops "have everything they need to get the job done, a leader who believes in their mission and honors their service, a leader who has the courage and the character to stay on the offense against terrorism until the war is won." Bush stood next to him, and they embraced afterward. "On Tuesday, we need you to get out and vote. We need you to get your friends and neighbors out to vote -- tell them you're voting for President Bush and get them on board, too," Schilling said. "I am now not medically cleared to do anything until I see Doc on Sunday, so I cannot travel with President Bush tomorrow (Friday). Second, while I am a Bush supporter, and I did vote for him with an absentee ballot, speaking as I did the other day was wrong. While I hope to see him re-elected, it's not my place, nor the time for me to offer up my political opinons unsolicited. I am proud we have the right to vote, and the message I wanted to send but didn't, was that regardless of who you are voting for, the bottom line is that you MUST vote. You must vote because there are millions of Americans who have given their lives before us, and will continue to give their lives after us, so that we can remain free to make the choices we need to make when it comes to electing our Nation's leaders."-- 10.29.04 Curt Schilling via emailed statement

Hi. I'm Curt Schilling. I made $13 million in Red Sox salary this year. Of course, I also made a goodly sum for endorsing Ford trucks and from other endorsements. Keep in mind I have been a top tier major league pitcher for a decade now, so I have been making millions of dollars per year for many years now. I make good money annually from my investments, too. So of course I am going to vote Republican. Hey, but I'm just one of the guys, right?

Statement from Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran on the Bush Campaign's Latest Excuse for Missing Explosives Former West Point Professor, Bronze Star recipient and Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran Patrick Murphy responded to Rudy Giuliani's comments about the missing explosives this morning with the following statement: "This is another example of the Bush administration being derelict in their duties to lead and to take responsibility. As a soldier who served proudly in Iraq, I am disheartened by the former Mayor's comments. "This country needs leadership not excuses. Bush tried to win the war on the cheap, he didn't give us the troops the generals asked for, the troops that were needed to secure Iraq, now his surrogates are blaming the troops for his mistakes." -30- Rudy Giuliani, on the Today Show: "No matter how you try to blame it on the president the actual responsibility for it really would be for the troops that were there. Did they search carefully enough? Didn't they search carefully enough?" [10/28/04]

another history lesson that flegg is to moronic to read-
The plight of the 120th is emblematic of the U.S. military's larger problem: There simply aren't enough American soldiers in Iraq to guard and dispose of all of the weapons stockpiles we know of, and even if there were they would have to be in place for decades to ensure that the country was picked clean of weapons. This is, arguably, one of the foremost drawbacks of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's transformational strategy for conquering Iraq: When the initial combat phase was concluded there weren't enough troops to saturate and pacify the entire country.
Adding to the 120th's woes, many of the caches that were uncovered immediately following the successful conquest of Iraq last year were improperly handled and surveyed; in some cases troops attempted to blow up the munitions where they found them, inadvertently scattering unexploded bomb material in all directions. Cleaning up such sites further complicates an already Byzantine enterprise.
Regarding the general situation of unaccounted-for explosives, physicist and weapons expert Ivan Oelrich, a former consultant for the U.S. Army and now with the Federation of American Scientists, put it this way: "I'll bet if you took all the car bombs that have gone off in Iraq in the past six months and tallied them, [they] would add up to a couple of tons of high explosives. So if they're doing what they're doing with two or three tons, what difference does it make if they have 380 more?"
Without being cavalier about the weapons loss at Al Qaqaa, it is crucial to remember that the cache is just one repository among thousands in Iraq. The real and persistent danger is that America's continued mismanagement of the arms caches across Iraq is arming and equipping the very enemy the United States is dedicated to destroying and providing a key service to the insurgency.

WiF
USA - Thursday, October 28, 2004 at 09:28:46 (EDT)
on the 380 tons shiz- it was 350 metric tons which IS 380 US tons. And the math was mine up to the 760,000 one-pound bombs, agreed that the math iz a bit silly after that (scooped the poop elsewhere). But then again there have been a couple of IEDs exploded each day since the invasion. You do the math on how many centuries it will take to use up 760,000 more IEDs.

and how about a math lesson?
1. 380 tons of explosives stolen in Iraq.
2. One US ton = 2,000 pounds
3. So, 380 tons of explosives x 2,000 pounds = 760,000 pounds
4. One pound of this explosive brought down the Pan Am jet over Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 270 people.
5. If one pound is enough for one Lockerbie, then 760,000 pounds is enough to blow 760,000 US commerical jets out of the sky.
6. 760,000 Lockerbies times 270 dead per Lockerbie = 205,200,000 dead
7. 205 million dead is 2/3 of the population of the United States.

Hunter Thompson shiz-
Nixon hated running for president during football season, but he did it anyway. Nixon was a professional politician, and I despised everything he stood for -- but if he were running for president this year against the evil Bush-Cheney gang, I would happily vote for him. You bet. Richard Nixon would be my Man. He was a crook and a creep and a gin-sot, but on some nights, when he would get hammered and wander around in the streets, he was fun to hang out with. He would wear a silk sweat suit and pull a stocking down over his face so nobody could recognize him. Then we would get in a cab and cruise down to the Watergate Hotel, just for laughs.

and further on...
When young Bush was at Yale in the Sixties, he told the same joke over and over again for two years, according to some of his classmates. One of them still remembers it:
There was a young man named Green
Who invented a jack-off machine
On the twenty-third stroke
The damn thing broke
And churned his nuts into cream.

Well sucks to that and sucks to my ass-mar too!" was the response i got when I told him that having asthma, he really needs to knock it off. Well I learned that just because you are a lot smarter and richer than all of your friends doesn't mean that they have to listen to you. I think that is fucking pathetic but whatever, vinny's like 25 and he's only 5'3. Wanda could tell I was upset so she porked me for like two hours.

"How many more of these semi-nude, auto-tuned, reverb drenched, triple vocal tracked, sex obsessed... Dancers, with belly buttons more impressive than vocal ability, do we have to put up with before the whole thing implodes? It's demise can't come too soon for my money. It's like those Band Nerds that made up the horn sections of ten thousand white-boy ska bands back a few short years ago. One day, against all odds, they were somehow cool, the next day they were back home trying to hack government web sites and dreaming of the day the rock trombone will make a big comeback. I hope Spears and those of her ilk very soon go the way of big hair arena rock bands like White Snake, Loverboy, and Styx, who never dreamed we'd be looking at their videos one day and thinking, this is even funnier than leg warmers and platform boots."

As for the nonsense about Iran-Contra breaking in 1992, check this article about a certain Senator Kerry (beginning in 1985) battling the CIA for traffiking in crack and murdering people in Nicaragua.

Kerry's report was issued two years later, on April 13, 1989. Its stunning conclusion: "On the basis of the evidence, it is clear that individuals who provided support for the Contras were involved in drug trafficking, the supply network of the Contras was used by drug trafficking organizations, and elements of the Contras themselves knowingly received financial and material assistance from drug traffickers. In each case, one or another agency of the U.S. government had information regarding the involvement either while it was occurring, or immediately thereafter."
The report discovered that drug traffickers gave the Contras "cash, weapons, planes, pilots, air supply services and other materials." Moreover, the U.S. State Department had paid some drug traffickers as part of a program to fly non-lethal assistance to the Contras. Some payments occurred "after the traffickers had been indicted by federal law enforcement agencies on drug charges, in others while traffickers were under active investigation by these same agencies."

Looks like the NBC reporter doesn't agree with the network
"There wasn't a search," she told MSNBC, an NBC cable news channel. "The mission that the brigade had was to get to Baghdad. That was more of a pit stop there for us. And, you know, the searching, I mean certainly some of the soldiers head off on their own, looked through the bunkers just to look at the vast amount of ordnance lying around.

...Iraq's Ministry of Science and Technology told the IAEA the explosives disappeared sometime after coalition forces took control of Baghdad on April 9, 2003.
The NBC team accompanied the 101st Airborne at Al-Qaqaa the following day -- on April 10, 2003.

so I guess the stuff disappeared sometime overnight on the 9th. After all the White House would never lie about such things.

If I was wrong in my estimation of the foolishness of much of the American public, they'd be outraged that bush keeps giving Osama one victory after another. As it stands, even supposedly in-depth analysis in the news has about as much complexity and insight as a typical episode of Gilligan's Island.
This of course refers to episodes other than the one where Mary thought she was Ginger. Pure genius that one was, surpassed maybe only by the Brady Bunch/Marsha-"I broke my nose" episode.

if only we lived in a country where saying, "Never underestimate the stupidity of the American public." had no meaning, then an article like this would have a chance to have an impact...

Some experts on international law and foreign policy object to calling the struggle against terrorism a war, pointing for example to the legal problem of whether under international law a state can declare war on a non-state movement and claim the rights of war, or arguing that terrorism constitutes a tactic and that no one declares war against a tactic. Both arguments indicate the sloppy thinking that pervades the rhetoric of the War on Terror. The first point, moreover, has important practical consequences for such questions as the treatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay, and elsewhere, and for our relations with allies, other states, and the UN. Yet these kinds of arguments seem too academic to matter. The general public can hardly understand them, much less let them influence their votes.

Plus, bush made sure they secured the oil ministry BEFORE they took Baghdad and that NBC story is about the site being checked for the first time AFTER the fall of Baghdad. Redux of consequences; oil safe, 1,100+ US GIs dead and enough explosives out there to produce 760,000 more IEDs.

What this doesn't tell ya is that the attacks can look a lot like siezurse some time, but here's some vestibular shiz...
Canine idiopathic vestibular disease (also called "Old dog vestibular disease") and, its feline counterpart, feline idiopathic vestibular disease begin acutely and resolve acutely. Usually improvement is evident in 72 hours and the animal is normal in 7-14 days, possibly with an occasional head tilt persisting. When a case of vestibular disease presents, it may be a good idea to wait a few days to see if improvement occurs before doing diagnostics beyond a routine blood/urine database. These two conditions are idiopathic, meaning we do not know why the occur. We do know that they represent problems in the periphery (nerves of the middle ear rather than in the actual brain.)

PS to vic: yes, thanks for depositing one muddy brief on my antique Duncan Fyffe sofa Saturday night. I'm still trying to get the protein stains out of the bracade trim.

NO SHIT. I beleieve the whole World Series to be crefully orchestrated to garner television ratings for Fox. Bringing Pedro in in the 7th was ENTIRELY CALCULATED to get people from changing the channel on a perceived blow out. I'm telling you. I know this to be true. because i know all.

Exactly. Entertainment, people. How many more people know Ashlee Simpson's name today than they did Saturday at noon? Hmmm? And for all you ams that think 99.9% of the performing bands out there-including some of your more "real" rock artists don't use some sort of track during a live set, well then I got an ice cream castle w/ marshmallow garage in the sky to sell you. Anyway, wif, Vestibular disease. Interesting. I just had a lengthy phone call with the vet about this very thing. Onion (cocker mix) is having the nystagmus action of the eyes this morning but not seizing ust yet. I'm almost wondering if the seizue she had thursday was not simply just passing out from disorientation. How was Smokey treated?

Let's see, 380 tons, that's 2000lbs/ton and one pound of this stuff was enuf to down the Lockerbie flight or the equivalent of a fully packed car bomb. So bush's fvk up has made available enough material to make 760,000 IEDs. So that's about 5 bombs/soldier we have over there. Yup, it's officially a Qwagmire.

For the record, the real MJ did not post the "Ashlee mockery" link. And anyways, I only got one thing to say to all who actually believe Ashlee's fuck-up was a mistake, that it was not intended to air, and that it was not a carefully pre-planned publicity stunt not unlike Janet's exposed boob at halftime show: "WAKE THE FUCK UP PEOPLE" Do you actually believe that ANYTHING we see on the illuminated boxes in our living rooms-especially something "entertainment" related- is actually "live" and/or "real" and not 100% calculated?! I got another word for you amateurs, "Lunar Landing"

Simpson made some exaggerated hopping dance moves, then walked off the stage 35 seconds into the performance. NBC quickly cut to a commercial. "What can I say?" guest host Jude Law said with Simpson standing next to him at the end of the show. "Live TV." "Exactly," Simpson said. "I feel so bad. My band started playing the wrong song. I didn't know what to do so I thought I'd do a hoe-down."
